Peppol eInvoicing in Denmark

One of the pioneers of eInvoicing, Denmark integrated its NemHandel infrastructure with Peppol in 2017, providing greater efficiency for transacting domestically and beyond borders using the Peppol standard. With over 99% of B2G invoices now electronic, the next steps involve mandating the public sector’s use of other electronic documents and expanding B2B use.

Are you a:

Government agency that interacts with external suppliers?
Private sector company that has won a government procurement contract?
B2B business that wants to get ahead of your competitors?
Software provider that wishes to include Peppol as part of your ERP system?

Benefits of Peppol eInvoicing with Tickstar

Cost savings

An eInvoicing leader, Denmark saw the opportunity for significant cost savings early on. This is backed up in detail by the Australian Tax Office, the country’s Peppol Authority, who calculated that entities can realise cost savings of up to 66% — AUD 9,18 (DKK 41,75) to process an eInvoice, as opposed to AUD 27,67 (DKK 125,83) for a PDF invoice sent through email.

Faster invoice payout

Peppol’s direct secure connection without middlemen allows for faster receival and even the automation of payments, without any of the errors that can come from manual entry of information.

Compliance with EU regulations

Peppol was built to European specifications and complies with directive 2014/55/EU on eInvoicing in public procurement. In addition, Tickstar is at the forefront of all developments, assuring compliance is ongoing in the face of changing regulations.

User-friendly interface and advanced tools

Refined over 11 years by Tickstar’s Peppol pioneers, we offer expert tools that eclipse those offered by our competitors. This includes our Peppol Validator, Participant Lookup API and Service Metadata Publisher (SMP), designed to ensure you get the most out of your eInvoicing experience within your own applications!

Direct connection to ERP systems

If you’re a larger government agency or enterprise, Tickstar’s API connection allows Peppol to be built into your ERP systems. For software vendors, Peppol can be provided as part of your customised software packages to businesses around the world — opening another revenue stream with ease.

Compatible with OIOUBL and NemHandel

Peppol is integrated with NemHandel and public institutions must, by law, be able to receive eInvoices in both OIOUBL and Peppol formats. This means businesses transacting both within Denmark and internationally using Peppol only ever need one network and eInvoice standard.

eInvoicing in Denmark

Denmark is seen as a leader in the field of eInvoicing, with suppliers to public sector organisations having been required to transact using eInvoices since 2005. These eInvoices were, and still are, required to go through the Danish NemHandel platform, which is based on the four-corner model. This is the same architecture that underpins the Peppol network and its components.

Joining the rapid expansion of the network, the Danish Business Authority (ERST) became the third of what is currently 18 Peppol Authorities across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Approval and adoption of the Peppol BIS Billing standard at a national level and Peppol integration with NemHandel meant that businesses could use the Peppol network to transact B2G and B2B eInvoices within Denmark, as well as with Peppol participants from any other country worldwide.

Excitingly, Denmark is utilising Peppol’s potential beyond simply transacting eInvoices. Some state institutions acting within the Government Procurement Program are required to use eOrders and eCatalogues as part of purchasing agreements. Another area of focus involves making B2B eInvoicing mandatory under a 2022 bookkeeping act. The date with which businesses will need to begin transacting electronically (if they haven’t already), is based on company turnover, and many are likely to join the nearly 38.000 Peppol participants registered in Denmark to date.
