Java CAPS
Java CAPS, Java Composite Application Platform Suite, is Sun Microsystems’ comprehensive integration suite, containing all tools you need to build the technical solutions of a service oriented architecture.
Java CAPS is in it’s latest version, JavaCAPS6,a combination of well known technology from former versions combined with the new java standard JBI, Java Business Integration. Java CAPS includes tools for integrating your internal application as well as for integrating your systems with you customers and suppliers.
The platform contains adapters for a variety of communication protocols, and also to systems as SAP, Oracle Siebel. It also supports standards as EDIFACT, X12, HL7.
The runtime environment for Java CAPS as well as for Sun’s other integration products is their effective application server Glassfish Server and NetBeans IDE is used for development for all involved technologies.
Glassfish ESB
Glassfish ESB is an integration platform based on open source projects as Open ESB, Netbeans, Glassfish and more, distributed in a stable binary release where commercial support can be obtained as an option. A major benefit of this model is that it can start to freely download the software, develop and even deploy without paying anything. When you want to go into service with mission critical applications you can then get the security a commercial support contract will give.
Glassfish ESB is entirely based on open standards including JBI, WS-* and Java EE which reduces thr risk for platform and vendor lock-in.
Open ESB
Open ESB is an open source project funded by Sun Microsystems with the purpose to develop an open source based integration platform based on JBI and other open standards. This project is the basis for Glassfish ESB, and large parts of Java CAPS. For those interested in exploiting the latest technology or want develop Open ESB itself is a good alternative.

Glassfish Server is Sun Microsystems’ Open Source-based application server. Glassfish Server is as Glassfish ESB avaliable with commercial support. Glassfish server has been classified as the fastest application server on the market. The combination of open source with commercial support makes Glassfish a cost efficient and a stable alternative for both large enterprise solutions and small companies’ web solutions.
Glassfish Server is the runtime environment for all of Sun’s integration software; Java CAPS, Glassfish ESB and Open ESB.
